　　拉丁语在欧洲曾经有着显赫的地位。在中世纪，很多的伟大人物都是以拉丁语书写著作的。在英国，有几个世纪拉丁语曾是上流社会的语言。直到现在，大量的医学、生物学、天文学等的专业术语都是拉丁语。因此，在托福写作中正确使用一些常用的拉丁语能够让你的文章增添一些“高端”、“有文化”、“学术范儿”等色彩。

　　etc.是et cetera的缩写，发音是/et ˈsetərə/，英式拼法通常没有缩写符号“.”，因此是etc。

　　【例】The children can try playing music, dancing, painting etc. 孩子们可以尝试一下演奏乐器，跳舞以及画画等。

　　注意：etc.前面没有and，因此不能说成music, dancing, painting and etc.。有很多同学犯过这个错误。

　　e.g.是exempli gratia的缩写，发音是/ˌiː ˈdʒiː/或读成for example——但千万不要读成egg!(我一个学生确实这样读过)举例怎么和鸡蛋产生了关系呢*_*?

　　3i.e. 也就是;也即是

　　i.e.是id est的缩写，发音是/ˌaɪ ˈiː/，相当于that is。

　　【例】The hotel is closed during low season, i.e. from October to March. 这家宾馆淡季的时候是关门的，也即从10月份到3月份。
